ive been working on a new live cd of boxee using the xubuntu as the base install. this will hopefully fix some issues that people have been having with networking and sound. i will be using xubuntu 9.04 and the latest version of boxee (with hulu working!!!!).

also in the works is an official name for this project as well as the artwork. what does everyone think of Boxee Now? this logo is in no way an official logo for this project, its just something that i threw together in a few minutes for fun. If anyone wants to create a logo, please send it to boxee@brianmathis.net

April 14th, 2009boxee live cd test 2!

This is my second attempt at the boxee live cd. in this release, i added/completed the following:

  • added readahead for (hopefully) faster boot time
  • added gtk-chtheme so gnome gtk based apps will look better
  • added jockey-gtk so users can install ubuntu restricted drivers
  • fixed the reboot menu entry
  • moved the fluxbox menu around a bit and added menu options for jockey-gtk
  • removed the persistent grub menu entry when booting from live cd (this feature will be added at a later time)

April 11th, 2009boxee live cd anyone?

i put together a slim live cd for boxee based on ubuntu because i didnt want the bloat of gnome, kde, or xfce on my dedicated media box and figure i’d share it with the world.

what i did -

i basically stated with a bare minimum installation of ubuntu and slowly added applications to my liking. i installed fluxbox as the window manager since it is light weight and doesnt carry some of the bloat that the other window managers do. i added firefox web browser, transmission bit torrent client, the rox filer manager, and xterm terminal emulator. i did use gdm as the desktop manager cause i plan on adding a custom login screen later on. i added boxee through the repo for now and set it to startup automatically.
